Travel and Accommodation

Travel

Airports

Shannon Airport (SNN) is located in County Clare and is the closest - around a one hour drive.

Dublin (DUB) and Cork (ORK) are both better connected but are a bit further away - allow at least three to four hours for the drive.

Car Rental

We strongly recommend renting a car for your trip.

Public transport in the area, as well as taxis/ride sharing, is practically non existent.

Clare is rural and rustic though, so be prepared for narrow single lane roads and tractors!

Car Parking

There is car parking available at both Quilty Church for the ceremony and at Vaughan’s for the reception.

You will be able to leave your car parked overnight at Vaughan’s.

Accommodation

Hotels

West Clare is a popular holiday spot and experiences high demand during the summer break. There are no large hotel chain options available so expect to rely on local hotels, Bnb’s and home stays.

We highly recommend booking accommodation as soon as you are able to commit to attending.

We recommend looking around Lahinch. It is a handy location between Quilty and Kilfenora and the town has plenty of restaurants, pubs and a surf beach.

Alternatively we would also recommend Ennistymon, Doolin or Spanish Point.

Vaughan’s

For the week leading up to the wedding we will be staying at Sinead’s family home in Quilty. The night of the wedding and reception (July 18th) we will stay at Vaughan’s.

For those who are interested in staying there too they have plenty of rooms available for wedding guests.

There are double rooms and family rooms available for €150.

Please let us know if you would like to get more information or to book one.

Transport

We will provide limited transport after the reception to assist those who are not staying with us at Vaughan’s back to their accommodation. This will likely be a mini-bus or similar. Further details will be provided closer to the time when we have a better idea of numbers and logistics.

We also recommend considering carpooling to Vaughan’s as it will make it easier to collect cars the next day. We can assist putting people in contact with each other to help organise this.

Points of Interest

Things to do if…

You fancy a walk: the Cliff’s of Moher walk goes from Doolin to Hag’s Head (20km in total, not suitable for children as there are no barriers at the cliff’s edge). Or head to Kilkee Cliffs and Loop Head Lighthouse.

You fancy a hike: Moylussa is the highest point in Clare and has several hiking trails. Nearby to Killaloe on the River Shannon.

You fancy a drive: head around The Burren coast and back via the N67 and Corkscrew Hill (or back via Poulnabrone tomb).

You need a Father Ted throwback: Visit the house used in the TV series - located here. Vaughan’s was also used as the pub setting and has some memorabilia.

You fancy a surf: Lahinch Beach has a good swell (usually) and places to rent gear.

You fancy an ice cream: head to Doolin’s Fisher Street and Doolin Ice Cream
